Bird sanctuary

Yesterday afternoon the sun was shining, and we decided to go for a family hike. We started out to one of our normal hiking areas, but at the last minute decided to check out a new spot near a local lock & dam. We discovered a beautiful path where we walked along the river, then turned into a bird sanctuary. A large majestic bird (a hawk maybe?) soared over our heads, then was joined by another and another until there were eight or ten, gliding, playing with the wind currents, catching them, releasing them, and diving. Blue herons stretched their long necks and took flight across the way. Robins with the most magnificent markings I’ve seen were dwarfed by the sight of these other creatures. As I watched, I imagined how much fun God must have had, the ultimate artist, creating, designing, and detailing each of these works of art, then setting them into motion like a beautiful game for us to see and enjoy on this day. What a grand reminder this was of the Creator and what a beautiful, fun way to enjoy his creation as a family. You can bet we’ll be back, and next time we’ll take a field guide to help identify the glorious creatures.
