This year we tried something different that I first read about on Rocks in my Dryer, then again at the Homespun Heart. In order to keep Easter more focused on Jesus and what he did for us, we separated the secular aspects of Easter from the sacred, and enjoyed the secular aspects on the first day of Spring. This worked out really well as my three year old had been asking for quite a while, "Is it Spring yet?" Here is what we did:
We met Daddy for a picnic lunch at a park near the airport. It was COLD, but we enjoyed some outdoor play, watched the airplanes coming in to land, ate a bit of lunch (the cold seemed to affect our appetites!), and even saw some deer walk past our picnic area.
We headed to the local sports store to look at camping equipment and dream about some fun Spring camping adventures.
At home after the kids rest time, we had an Easter egg hunt in our backyard, colored Easter eggs, had a family sing-along, and then ate dinner complete with these cute bunny biscuits.
Last week we also participated in our town’s local Eater egg hunt. This year I remembered not to be greedy, but just let the kids enjoy it at their pace. That meant that while other kids got tons more eggs, my two little ones got only a handful each, but they sure enjoyed the ones they got!
All in all, we really enjoyed our first day of Spring party and plan to make it an annual event.
