We hadn’t been out fishing in ages, but somehow lately we’ve realized the importance of enjoying the outdoors together as a family and made it a higher priority. There is a neat sportsman’s club that we joined last year, primarily for the pool. The membership also includes access to their fishing lakes, trails, playground, camping, hunting, and target practice. This year we weren’t going to renew it since there are other pools closer to our home, but none of the nearby pools include all those other amenities. We went out to for one last fishing venture before our membership expired, and quickly realized we didn’t want to let it! Once we decided to renew our membership, we have gone crazy with using it! Out of the last 4 days, we have been fishing 3 of them! The first evening we went we caught 3 fish! Not bad for fishing with a toddler. Last night our toddler tried his hand at fishing for the first time. Now granted, this meant that after daddy cast the line, he would hold the pole and smack the water with it, scaring all the fish away, but he had a great time. I wished I had my camera with me. This particular fishing spot is great because it’s far enough away from any roads that our son can run and play under our supervision while we fish. By far his favorite activity is watching, feeding, or chasing the duck that seems to always find us. When the duck isn’t around, he climbs up and down small dirt walls, runs in the grass, finds pebbles to toss in the water, and rearranges the pile of firewood. It’s so great – no plastic, no official toys, yet whenever we pull in, he starts shaking his arms, kicking his legs, and yelling “Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!” Yes, I think this beats the closer, crowded community pools by far.
Today we have another outdoor adventure planned. For Mother’s Day, hubby took me to Home Depot to pick out annuals for our front yard. Our goal for the day is to get the front beds all weeded, planted, and mulched. Yeah!
