My husband was supposed to get some shots for work. We found out that there was a very small chance that one of the required shots could pose a risk to our unborn baby. It was a small risk, but it was a real risk that if I accidentally came in contact with the injection sight, it could kill our unborn child. We were not willing to take that risk. Hubby was willing to do whatever necessary to avoid that shot, and made that clear. We began to really pray that God would work it out so that either hubby wouldn’t have to get the shots or so that hubby could get them at a time when he was on a business trip and, therefore, the risk to the baby would be past by the time he was home.
This morning hubby met with the doctor. This is the man who has the authority to either waive the shots, postpone them, or really cause some trouble for my husband. Now as a small aside, hubby has an irritating rash on his hands that sometimes flares up. I think it came about as a reaction to some chemicals years ago, but the doctors don’t know what caused it and have called it exema. Last time hubby saw a doc, it was pretty much cleared up. Today it was acting up. When the doctor saw his hands, he immediately made a note in my husband’s records that he has exema and therefore was excused from the shots that we were concerned about. Hubby didn’t even have to mention my pregnancy.
Who would have known that God could use this annoying rash on my husband’s hands to protect our unborn child? I feel a bit like Cori Ten Boom when she told Betsy she could never thank God for lice, then learned that God had used the lice to give them the freedom to carry on a Bible study in the concentration camp. (If you don’t know this story, I highly recommend that you read The Hiding Place.)
